Loving Vincent
Was there a 19th century artist, who achieved so little success in his own lifetime and yet whose work now, is with that of Cezanne and Gauguin recognised as the precursor of what we now call Modern Art. Lonely, isolated and misunderstood, on the brink of insanity, his dream was of a Utopian world, where paintings for the common man, would make the world a better place. It was only with the love, and financial support of his younger brother Theo, forming one of the most unique partnerships in art, that generations of all ages, creeds and races have been able to enjoy his vibrant and insightful paintings. This presentation will with a selection of many of Vincent van Gogh’s best loved paintings, follow his life from Holland to Paris and then to Provence, where with astonishing passion, ingenuity and skill, he depicted sunlit scenes, which captivated his first admirers in the early 20th century and have done so ever since.
